Leftists Try To Sneak “Documented Dreamers” Some Green Cards
As the nation focuses its immigration attention on the new illegals running over the border, two Democrats in the Senate and the House are trying to use this to their advantage to sneak through some dreamers who are already here. Senator Alex Padilla (D-CA) and Representative Deborah Ross (D-NC) have launched the “American Children’s Act” to the Senate and House on May 17th.
With this act people here on work visas that were snuck in here as dependents, who have been called “Documented Dreamers,” would be eligible to apply for green cards with no consideration for the cap numbers that have been imposed on their country of origin. This isn’t a new measure either.
Back during the 177th Congress, the duo introduced this bill, and it even had a few other GOP members co-sponsoring the bill, and they have returned to do so again now. Given the fact that many of them have spent over half their lives here before their visa expires at 21. Known as “aging out” they are expected to voluntarily deport themselves from the country.
In Ross’ view, these people are the fabric of America in everywhere but on paper, almost as if we were talking about the patience of knighthood. Padilla simply explained “Their parents’ green cards are caught up in red tape. It’s not their fault, and they were brought here legally. They face a choice that their [American] classmates could never imagine: do they self-deport and leave family, or stay in the U.S. and live in the shadows?”
This kind of backhanded move to try and keep the nation flooded with immigrants isn’t the way to get things done. It has never passed the Senate on its own merit or even when attached to the National Defense Authorization Act and the Build Back Better Act. Like the EAGLE Act, which has been caught up by the Black Caucus that objected to it and stopped it in Congress, this act goes too far.
According to opponents of the bill, this would present a tremendous problem for the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) which already has a major backlog of cases. With President Biden already handing out asylum like it was puffy stickers, the USCIS is likely to be incredibly busy for some time. As the Heritage Foundation explained back in 2022, the word temporary needs to mean just that. Not something that will convert to permanent simply because you are now an adult.
Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) spoke to the Daily Caller News Foundation about this, and he said it best. “While I continue to support relief for Dreamers, I hope my Democratic colleagues understand we must repair a broken border and address a tsunami of illegal immigration before that is remotely possible.”
Much like repairing a house, you can’t patch the walls when the foundation is crumbling. Sure, it might make things look pretty for a little bit, but it does nothing but hide the problem and make us ignore the real demise heading right for us. The shift in Graham from his previous attempts to help the illegal Dreamers to his feelings on the subject should tell the American people everything they need to know about the subject.
Dreamers are a unique situation to American immigration. Given their ability to become anchors for the rest of the family, they are akin to the children born here to illegals. Yet because of how they came here they require different treatment and special considerations. This means allowing them opportunities others may not have. Sadly though, the overwhelming of our system by their fellow home countrymen to flood our nation with their asylum claims has left the Dreamers silenced.
Speaking out when the mainstream media isn’t paying attention is one of the shadiest ways to get this done. It won’t pass now, and given the lack of public knowledge about it, it shouldn’t.
