The group Our Revolution has been relentless in their attacks on Senator Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) and their Executive Director has made it incredibly well known in a recent interview that they won’t stop until they get what they want from her. No matter the cost.
“We’re committed to bird-dogging Kyrsten Sinema with her constituents until the very end. What we want to show is that her constituents are very serious about wanting policies and activism and we’re going to make her life unpleasant or uncomfortable until that happens.”
This isn’t a blind threat. While traveling to D.C. after her recent attack in the bathroom on the ASU campus, these protesters followed her into the airport, and one went as so far as to get an airline ticket to harass her the whole flight to D.C., then groups of them harassed her at the Boston Marathon.
One of the biggest problems here is that Barnie Sanders is a backer of this radical group and refuses to condemn the “bird-dogging” of this Senator for sticking to her guns. Her refusal to blindly follow party lines and support this gross overspending bill by Biden is something people need to be supporting, yet these groups find positives in one part of the bill and want it to be rushed through. They fail to realize the ramifications of this bill.
As Sanders continues his support of these activities, one must wonder if he’ll open his wallet enough to make this a global event. Senator Sinema was smart and took off to Europe, leaving no publicly available itinerary or location. This allows her the time to decompress and get away from the harassment without their knowledge. This also can help her to solidify her position even further.
This group as well as LUCHA (who was the driving force behind the bathroom attack) have been insisting she won’t listen to them and are determined to make her do so. Unfortunately for them, the problem is actually the polar opposite. Senator Sinema has been very honest with the White House, and everyone else about her feelings on this issue, and has not wavered.
Sinema has also blasted these attacks, and rightfully so. “Yesterday’s behavior was not [a] legitimate protest. It is unacceptable for activist organizations to instruct their members to jeopardize themselves by engaging in unlawful activities such as gaining entry to closed university buildings, disrupting learning environments, and filming students in a restroom”.
Her decision to take these groups on face to face is incredibly brave. As we have seen over the years these radical groups will often escalate from civil protest to violent extremes incredibly quickly. What needs to happen before her fellow Democrats take a stand and stick up for her rights? If it’s violence, it doesn’t seem like we are far off from that happening. Should that happen, people on both sides of the aisle will need to stand up and condemn it openly. With this shameful division, that doesn’t seem likely; even if it goes to a deadly level.
Republicans have been able to rejoice in her unwavering stance, and it could not be better for the American people. As Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) has been joining Senator Sinema on this journey for doing the right thing, it makes any change before the Democrat self-imposed deadline of 31 October highly unlikely. Perhaps after that passes the Democrats will learn how to compromise, and talk like civilized adults?
