Second Stimulus: All Hope Is Not Lost
(FinancialHealth.net) – The Senate will be back on Capitol Hill on September 8, and lawmakers are expected to pick up negotiations on the next stimulus bill. Republicans are reportedly discussing a targeted bill to deal specifically with the most important issues on the table. That’s led to speculation that direct payments may not be sent out to the American people again, but it could still happen.
According to a report by CNET, both Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) have indicated they’d like to send more aid directly to the American people. The Left’s HEROES Act and the GOP’s HEALS Act include the stimulus payments.
On September 1, Gallup released a poll showing strong bipartisan support for another round of $1,200 direct payments to qualifying Americans.
82% of Democrats and 64% of Republicans would support the government sending another economic stimulus payment to all qualified adults. Learn more about @FTI_US and Gallup’s latest findings. https://t.co/noCWDVZReX

With so much support among voters, there’s still a chance the lawmakers will come together and reach an agreement on the direct payments before the end of the year. That could possibly even happen in a separate bill. We just won’t know until they’re back on Capitol Hill and negotiating with one another.
