URGENT: Still Waiting On A Stimulus Check?
(FinancialHealth.net) – Article Update: 11/16/20: According to the IRS, the deadline for non-filers to file for their economic impact payment is now November 21, 2020.
Originally published 9/15/20: Believe it or not, the IRS is reporting they have yet to mail round-one stimulus checks to a staggering 9 million people. Why? That’s how many people haven’t filed income tax returns for 2018 or 2019.
A lot of people who don’t usually meet the income requirements to file taxes happen to receive social security, veterans, or disability payments. In those cases, the IRS was able to get mailing or deposit information.
The IRS doesn’t require single individuals under the age of 65 making below $12,200 annually to file a tax return. So while these people didn’t do anything wrong by not filing, it also means the IRS isn’t able to locate them to give them their stimulus money. In other words, a huge portion of the population most in need of that money hasn’t been able to access it.
There are some cut-off deadlines that need to be met. Non-filers with children need to register to receive their stimulus payment by September 30th. Other non-filers need to register by October 15th. Those who haven’t filed taxes can fill out this form on the IRS website.
The deadlines are fast approaching. While we hope to see an extension, there are no guarantees. Spread the word so those you know who didn’t need to file a 2018 or 2019 tax return can register to receive their checks!
