Dems Ready to Block Trump, Repeating History of Objecting to Election Results

The party that spent four years crying because former President Donald Trump dared to question election “results” is gearing up to…you know, question election results if Trump wins in November.

In October, some senior Democrats in the House started preparing to challenge the election results. They told Axios that how they would certify the Electoral College results would depend on the election’s “integrity.”

Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD), the leading Democrat on the House Oversight Committee, mentioned that they would accept Trump’s victory if he “won a free, fair and honest election.” However, he “definitely” did not expect Trump to follow those rules.

Raskin said that Trump is trying to interfere with the process, whether it’s by changing the Electoral College counts in Nebraska, manipulating the vote count in Georgia, or creating other obstacles.

It seems Raskin was passed the Democratic playbook from 2020.

Meanwhile, Rep. Jim McGovern (D-MA), the top Democrat on the House Rules Committee, said Democrats need to wait and see how it all plays out. He added that Democrats are willing to accept the results, “assuming everything goes as we think it will.”

It’s important to remember that everything “going as they think it will” means Harris assuming the Democrat’s crown.

For what it’s worth, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) said House Democrats will do “everything necessary” to certify the presidential election on January 6 “without drama or consequences.”

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) expressed disappointment after hearing Raskin and McGovern’s comments. He said he had sworn to follow the Constitution and believed his colleagues would act according to the law. He said that a peaceful transition of power is the goal of House Republicans. He did add the caveat that the election would be certified if it was “free and fair.”

However, Johnson predicts Democrats will not follow the same rules if Trump wins. He noted that Democrats have made it a habit of challenging electors every time a Republican president has won in the past 25 years. He pointed out that they often object for ridiculous reasons, and he expects many will object again if Trump wins simply because they dislike him.

Case in point: Raskin and McGovern, who laughably dismiss Trump’s concerns over the 2020 election result, are no strangers to voicing concerns over election results. Raskin objected to some of Florida’s electoral votes in 2016, and McGovern raised concerns about the count that year in Alabama. Notably, McGovern also claimed that Russian interference had changed the presidential election’s outcome.

Democrats have habitually objected to presidential elections following Republican wins. They raised objections during the 2016 electoral counts, citing concerns like voter suppression or foreign interference. Congressional Democrats also challenged the 2000 electoral count in Florida when George W. Bush won and contested ballots cast in Ohio for him in 2004. In those cases, they claimed fraud.t

Eight GOP senators and 139 Republican representatives initially opposed certifying former Vice President Joe Biden’s 2020 victory. However, they were stopped during the vote because of the protests on January 6.

The reasons Republicans were hesitant to certify the results were legal. Johnson recalls Johnson told that COVID changed everything in 2020. He said that many things were irregular, and some people, acting in good faith and some not, started changing laws at the state level.

He explained that states considered how people would vote and suggested sending mail-in ballots to every voter and placing unmanned drop boxes in public parks for people to drop off their ballots.

The results of those decisions are highly debatable, even four years later. Biden “won” the election after a series of polling place irregularities, documented ballot box stuffing, and fraudulent votes were dismissed.

While some of these ideas might have been well-intended, Johnson pointed out that state legislatures never approved them. State legislatures weren’t meeting because of the pandemic and didn’t allow proxy voting. This was a constitutional violation.

History shows that Democrats are the party of disputed elections, and there is proof that they are quietly planning to block his certification. If they fail that, they have numerous plans to block any policies he sets forward as president.

It’s impossible to imagine that fraud could occur on the same scale as it did in 2020, but Democrats are steeling themselves for a new steal.
