In a brazen display of hubris, Vice President Kamala Harris took to the stage at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, touting her foreign policy record and support for veterans. However, she conveniently left out the 13 U.S. service members who lost their lives during the botched withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021.

Harris boasted about her ability to defend America’s interests, stating, “I will never hesitate to take whatever action is necessary to defend our forces and our interests against Iran and Iran-backed terrorists.” She also took a veiled shot at former President Trump, claiming he was easy to manipulate by tyrants like Kim Jong Un. However, this rhetoric rings hollow given her own administration’s disastrous handling of the Afghanistan withdrawal.

In a bizarre attempt to showcase her foreign policy credentials, Harris highlighted her meeting with Ukrainian President Zelensky five days before Russia invaded Ukraine. She claimed she “helped mobilize a global response” against Putin’s aggression, but failed to acknowledge the Biden administration’s catastrophic missteps in Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, families of those killed during the Afghanistan withdrawal took to the stage at the Republican National Convention last month, delivering an emotional rebuke of the Biden-Harris administration’s handling of the crisis. Cheryl Juels, aunt of Marine Sgt. Nicole Gee, demanded that President Biden owe a debt of gratitude and apology to those who served in Afghanistan.

Quotes from Kamala Harris:

  • “I will never hesitate to take whatever action is necessary to defend our forces and our interests against Iran and Iran-backed terrorists.”
  • “As president, I will never waver in defense of America’s security and ideals.”
  • “Five days before Russia attacked Ukraine, I met with President Zelensky to warn him about Russia’s plan to invade.”

Harris also attempted to curry favor with veterans by highlighting her efforts to protect them from scams and elder abuse. However, this empty rhetoric falls flat given her own administration’s appalling treatment of veterans during the Afghanistan withdrawal.

In conclusion, Harris’s acceptance speech was a masterclass in selective memory and doublespeak. Her attempts to tout her foreign policy record and support for veterans ring hollow when juxtaposed with the devastating consequences of her administration’s actions in Afghanistan.
